After you have updated your DNS, it can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours for the DNS changes to propogate throughout the Internet. Different networks refresh their DNS information at different times, so you may find that you can access your web site via your domain name before a friend or relative can, if they use a different ISP (Internet Service Provider) to connect to the Internet.
