| Q: What is Shared SSL and how does it work? |
|
What is shared SSL, and how is it different from dedicated SSL?
Shared SSL allows you to use our SSL certificate on your web site. Shared SSL is intended for occasional
(or light) use only and is not suitable for eCommerce. The shared SSL URL also has our domain name
in it. For example : https://ssl.dpnopc.net/yourdomain.com/ It is therefore a less professional
solution than using your own dedicated SSL certificate. For example : https://www.yourdomain.com/ For
eCommerce use we strongly suggest obtaining your own dedicated SSL certificate for your web site.
How do I install shared SSL on my domain?
- Logon to your Helm Control Panel and click on the Domains link.
- From the list, click on the Domain Name you want to
install shared SSL on.
- Click the SSL link.
- Click the Install button.
- After installation, Helm will show you which URL to use to access your
SSL folder via a web browser.
How do I use shared SSL?
When you install shared SSL on a domain, a folder called "SSL" is created in your web site's main folder.
Any file you upload to this folder will be accessible via your shared SSL URL and will therefore be encrypted.
Please note that you can only upload files to your "SSL" folder via FTP, not via FrontPage.
How do I find out what my shared SSL URL is?
- Logon to your Helm Control Panel and click on the Domains link.
- From the list, click on the Domain Name on which you installed shared SSL.
- Click the SSL link.
- Provided you already installed shared SSL, Helm will display your shared SSL URL to you.
